ABOUT MEGAN

Megan Cochran is an Australian contemporary artist, born in Maryborough, QLD and based in Kingscliff on Bundjalung Country in the Northern Rivers, NSW.

She holds a Bachelor of Design and a Master of Architecture from Queensland University of Technology, and completed international studies at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Grenoble in France.

She has presented two solo exhibitions, Earth & Human (2022) and Paysage Transcendent (2023), and has exhibited widely in group exhibitions across Australia and internationally, including Provence, France. Her work has been commissioned for public space, including the Tweed Valley Hospital in Kingscliff, and featured in Art Edit Magazine and Tweed Living Magazine. She has also undertaken cross-disciplinary collaborations including textile design, book cover design, and fragrance partnerships, and has experience within commercial gallery contexts and national art fairs.

“My practice begins with painting as a way of paying attention to what is often overlooked. I’m drawn to the battle for stillness in a world that feels increasingly fast, noisy, and saturated with images, where clear seeing can feel difficult to access. Painting becomes a way of slowing down enough to notice what is present but not always visible.

There is a spiritual thread in the work, something felt through attention, material and time. With a background in architecture, I’m interested in how space is constructed and experienced, and this informs how I build structure, depth, and rhythm within painting.

Through layered fields of colour, gesture, and repeated natural forms, I move between abstraction and landscape, holding sensation, feeling, and lived experience on the surface. I’m interested in painting as more than an image, but a threshold or a place you enter. A space to pause, soften, and encounter something just beyond language. At its core, the work is about learning to see in a more open, attentive and reverent way.”
